Within hours of unveiling the Galaxy Grand 2 in India, Samsung has
started taking pre-order for the new smartphone via its India e-store.
The Galaxy Grand 2 can be pre-ordered by paying an advance of Rs. 2,000,
which the company notes would be adjusted against the final price.
However, there is no word on the final pricing of the Galaxy Grand 2 for
the Indian market. Samsung had earlier said that the Galaxy Grand 2 will be released in the first week of January
and will be priced between Rs. 22,900 and Rs. 24,900.
The Samsung
Galaxy Grand 2 is
the successor to the Galaxy Grand. The South
Korean handset maker launched the Galaxy Grand 2 in India
on Monday, while globally unveiled the device in November this year. The
new Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 sports a 5.25 inch HD TFT with 16:9 ratio
and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixel. The device is powered by a 1.2 Ghz
Quad-Core processor made by Qualcomm and runs on Android 4.3 Jelly
Bean. Galaxy Grand 2
is equipped with a 1.5 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal memory expandable
up-to 64 GB.
Samsung
Galaxy Grand 2 has Dual SIM compatibility and is packed with a
2600 mAh battery. The dimensions of the device are 146.8 x 75.3 x 8.9
mm, and it weighs 163 grams. With the launch today, Samsung did not give
any clear idea on the pricing. However, Samsung has made it clear that
the price will not be below 22,900 and not above 24,900 Indian Rupees.
The chrome trim on the sides add some bling factor but sadly, it will
inevitably start chipping and fading over time. The faux-leather back
is taken straight from the Note 3 and looks a lot better than the glossy
back of the predecessor. The phone is comfortable to hold and is fairly
slim as well, which is good.

The Grand 2 also debuts Club Samsung – a new service which lets you
stream (or purchase) localised content – music, movies, web clips live
TV, etc. Currently, only movies and music is available, but others
should be ready soon by the time the phone hits retail. The Grand 2 comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean along with Samsung’s
TouchWiz interface. The UI wasn’t very smooth however and we noticed
quite a bit of lag when jumping around apps and homescreens. This could
be restricted to the demo units alone so we’ll have to wait till we get
our hands on the final unit. Just like the first phone, the Grand 2 is
also a dual-SIM handset so you can use one SIM for calling and the other
for data.
Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 will be available
in January next year when it is available for purchase. Samsung also
vaguely mentioned that it will come up with exciting New Year offers in
next couple of days. The phone will be available in White, Black and
Pink colours.
